Seeking ‘Izzah from Humans — The Quranic Warning
Quran 4:139 — The Prohibition:

Al-Aziz and the Believer’s Dignity — Quran 63:8
Quran 63:8 establishes the chain of ‘Izzah: Allah → His Messenger → believers. This chain is a theological fact with practical implications:
- The believer has genuine dignity — not borrowed, not pretended, but real — because it flows from Al-Aziz Himself.
- This dignity cannot be stripped by any human — a believer who is imprisoned, persecuted, or humiliated still has ‘izzah from Al-Aziz, even if the world cannot see it.
- The Prophet ﷺ’s life demonstrated this: expelled from Mecca, boycotted, mocked — yet the ‘izzah of Al-Aziz was with him. The Quraysh who mocked him had the apparent worldly power — but who is remembered with honour 1,400 years later?
How to Make Dua with Al-Aziz
- “Ya Aziz, a’izzni” — O Almighty, honour me / strengthen me. When facing humiliation, oppression, or feeling powerless against people or circumstances.
- Quran 3:26 — the Malikal-Mulk dua includes: “wa tu’izzu man tasha’ wa tudhillu man tasha'” — You honour whom You will and humiliate whom You will. Specifically addressing Al-Aziz’s power to grant ‘izzah.
- When seeking strength for a righteous cause — “Ya Aziz, a’in-ni ‘ala deen-ik” — O Almighty, help me in Your religion. Asking Al-Aziz to lend His might to your righteous endeavour.
- When oppressed — “Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa huwa ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa Rabb al-‘Arsh al-‘Azim” — Quran 9:129. Entrusting yourself to Al-Aziz when human might is arrayed against you.
